Early Intervention (0-3)
Our EI Music Therapy services in Rhode Island offer a family-centered care approach, utilizing music as a powerful tool to support infants and toddlers in their development.
Our clinicians utilize evidence based interventions that tap into the neurology of the brain to enhance communication, motor skills, cognition, social engagement, and overall development.
Through engaging musical experiences tailored to each child's needs, we promote meaningful interactions, foster language development, strengthen motor abilities, and stimulate cognitive growth. Our services are inclusive and multilingual, ensuring that families from diverse backgrounds can benefit from the transformative power of music therapy in early intervention.
In Early Intervention (EI), our dedicated team of music therapists holds Level II provider status, ensuring high-quality care for infants, toddlers and families and caregivers. As part of the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), we integrate music therapy goals into the comprehensive support provided.
Working collaboratively with the EI Team, we engage in cotreatments, fostering coordination and synergy among professionals involved in the child's care. We offer continuous support throughout the transition process and provide interventions to facilitate generalization and carry-over of skills within the family's daily routines.
Services are typically delivered weekly. To inquire about music therapy services, please contact your service coordinator or Hands in Harmony for more information and to begin the journey of supporting your child's development through the power of music.
School-based (3-21)
Music therapy can be provided as a related service within the school-based settings, supporting educational needs and overall well-being of students.
The U.S. Department of Education recognizes music therapy as a related service for students with disabilities who require additional support in areas such as communication, social skills, emotional regulation, cognitive abilities, and motor coordination. Related services, including music therapy, are deemed necessary to help students benefit from their special education program by providing supplementary interventions and resources tailored to their individual needs. These services are included in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) following an evaluation process to ensure the provision of comprehensive and effective support.

Our music therapy program focus on addressing a wide range of goals, including communication, social skills, academic goals, emotional regulation, cognitive abilities, and motor coordination. Through comprehensive assessments and ongoing evaluations, our qualified music therapists determine the specific needs of each student and develop individualized treatment plans.
To add music therapy to a child's Individualized Education Program (IEP), parents, guardians, and IEP team members can initiate the process by requesting a referral for a formal SEMTAP music therapy evaluation. The Special Education Music Therapy Assessment Process (SEMTAP) evaluation is a criterion-based assessment tool that utilizes comparative data to determine an increase
in ability and attention to perform IEP-based goals/objectives when presented through music stimuli. The evaluation will determine if a student qualifies for music therapy services. Our team works collaboratively with educators, administrators, and parents to advocate for the inclusion of music therapy as a related service, ensuring that students receive the comprehensive support they need to thrive academically.

Our collaborative approach allows us to provide music therapy services directly within these hospitals, offering the benefits of music as a therapeutic tool to support patients' healing and well-being.
Music therapy has shown significant effects on the neurology of the brain, stimulating areas responsible for cognition, emotional processing, and motor function. It can enhance communication, reduce anxiety and stress, promote relaxation, improve mood, and support overall physical and emotional recovery. By integrating music therapy into existing programs at these healthcare facilities, we aim to create a supportive and healing environment for patients and contribute to their healthcare journey
